This project involved the design and implementation of a cutting-edge security and surveillance system for the I-4 bridge over the St. Johns River.
Project Overview
The purpose of this project was to enhance the security and safety of a critical transportation asset using advanced technology. The system employs thermal imaging cameras to establish a secure perimeter around vulnerable areas of the bridge. Unauthorized access triggers pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) CCTV cameras, which track and record high-resolution footage, while alerts are sent to the Regional Traffic Management System (RTMC) for immediate response.
Project Leadership and Scope
Our team served as both Project Manager and Engineer of Record for this initiative, leading the design and implementation of the state-of-the-art surveillance system.
Design Features and Innovations
Our team led the design, which included:
Thermal imaging cameras for perimeter security and intrusion detection
Automatic PTZ CCTV camera activation for high-resolution tracking and recording
Robust Ethernet TCP/IP over fiber optic infrastructure for secure, high-speed data transmission
Dual-server setup to ensure uninterrupted video storage and analysis during disruptions
Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) for field cabinets and a standby generator for the video server to ensure continuous operation
Cybersecurity measures, including Cyberlock systems, to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive equipment
Coordination and Analysis
The system was engineered to withstand Florida's challenging environmental conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, and potential flooding from the St. Johns River. Strategic camera placement ensured comprehensive surveillance coverage with no blind spots.
This project highlights our expertise in delivering advanced security systems for critical infrastructure. By securing the I-4 bridge, we contribute to the safety and efficiency of regional transportation while protecting a vital asset.
